Savannah, Georgia

I had a short drive this morning to Savannah Georgia. I got there at about 9:39 am, and immediately came across an option for a historic walking tour of the city. I found

The tour started at 10am, and T.C. stayed on the phone with me, guiding me to where I could park. He stood in the space, reserving it for me! The tour took us through downtown and the Jones Street area. What I thought was fascinating was how far their economy has come along since the movie Forest Gump was made there. The movie has put the city on the map, bringing over 13 million visitors to the city each year. The city was in rough shape in the 1970's and since then has become quite vital. It was charming seeing the historic brick mid century 1800's homes. They have original glass, and wrought iron fencing. Renovations are tightly restricted, and it can take years to reconstruct back to original standards. Tour guide, T.C., was a historian and former radio announcer who was passionate and knowledgeable about Savannah. It was a very enjoyable experience. I walked some more and had lunch along the river which is filled with places to eat, and shops galore, while watching the ships come and go. The whole time I carried JoJo in a carrier pouch (like I was a kangeroo), he was certainly getting his fair share of attention. It was a great day!
