Rockland to Boothbay, Maine
Well boondocking in a public parking lot is not everything it's cracked up to be. While I'm boondocking, I have a daily hustle to look ahead and figure out where I'm spending the night. Short of buying a space at a campsite, which is what I could easily do, but that is also $40 and up these days. And fortunately, the Sylver Gypsy can run off a battery, supporting all of my appliances, so I don't need to plug in at all. In any event, these young men were extremely happy, and laughing at 1 a.m. in the morning, but that kind of cuts into my beauty rest. I use a variety of apps and resources to locate boondocking sites.
Along with Jo Jo, the Sylver Gypsy gets a lot of attention. So, even though I was in my private quarters, one woman came right up to the window, and cupped her hands around her eyes to try to get a clear view into my RV. My windows are tinted, so its pretty hard to view. So, she did startle me, and in the end I had to laugh, because I was in a private moment in the restroom while watching her do this. Geez, would you go up to someone's house and do that? Apparently there is no RV etiquette that people are aware of.
I made it to the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine. I wanted to view and learn about Andrew Wyeth along with his other family members who are well-renowned painters. Andrew Wyeth is best known for his portrait "Christina's World," a portrait of his wife. After viewing the museum, I drove to the Olson House where Andrew Wyeth spent 30 summers painting. He is also buried there. I was able to walk the field that was used in the portrait of Christina's World. The home is unfurnished, and left much in the original condition. It is full of unique patinas and peeling paint, and well worn wood. It's actually a classic style of a Maine home. There were 2 visitors who had set up easels to paint. This is a very remote part of Maine, full of farms, charm, and beautiful views of the ocean.
I managed to find Boothbay Brewery for my next boondocking spot. Jo Jo met doggie, Winston, and his parents Kathy and Mark, while sampling some local beer. It was fun talking with them as they too own a Class B, Airstream. We exchanged ideas, and both learned something new about the function of our RVs. Seriously, a day doesn't go by where I'm not learning something new about rving!
Aren’t they just stunning things to do? We did much of that last summer. Wonderful memories😎
