Three Days Nowhere

Well I didn't make it too far down the road, actually only about 15 minutes. I passed by Red Canyon on the way towards Bryce. So naturally I had to check it out and came up on another part of the Dixie National Forest. I drove a few miles on Forest Road 121. It was an easy drive, and several spots were already filled up, so as usual, I was concerned with finding anything for the day or night, as I headed further into the forest. And suddenly, there was a pull out down a narrow dirt driveway that opened up into the perfect spot, off of the road! I always get that feeling of having won the lottery when I find a place so unbelievably remote, and beautiful. I have a view of the red rock cliffs and hoodoos which reminds me of Bryce. I only see a vehicle drive by about once every three hours as they slow way down, envying my good fortune to have found the ultimate spot. Trees, shade, sun. I had it all. It helps that I go out and find these places fairly early and its just before the weekend. As I settled in and took a walk around, I gave close watch to the washers, always looking for pretty rocks. In fact I didn't see much until I started focusing up further along the hill. I started finding more and more of what I thought was Jasper or agate, but in reality it was Petrified wood. I only walked a couple hundred feet away from the RV until I came across a large rock, probably 100 pounds with awesome coloring. I managed to chip off a few pieces and actually had a couple of buckets filled with gorgeous samples that I took back to the RV. Sometime in the early afternoon, after lunch, I kept thinking about the rock and wondered if there was a way of dragging it back to the RV. There was no way I could pick it up to carry it. Perhaps I could drag it, or roll it, down the hill? I kept thinking if I had a tarp or blanket but nothing that wouldn't have been completely ruined. But I did have rope, so I decided to wrap it up and was successful at dragging it across the forest floor. Mind you, it was quite a work out and I had to stop and rest several times to catch my breath. Once I got it to the RV I had to assess whether I could actually pick it up, and somehow I managed to get it to the floor of the RV. It sounds strange, but I certainly had a sense of accomplishment over doing this. I spent the rest of the afternoon weeding through more photo albums and scrapbooks, doing some cleanup and even some laundry. I continued to enjoy the peace and quiet of the day in perfect temperatures, and decided to spend another day and night here doing more of the same.
