Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
It's my first full day in Yellowstone National Park. I woke up to 35° degree weather. Winter gear is on! After a quick walk with Jo Jo, I was on the road by 7 am. There was literally nobody up at that time, as they were all well into their campfire evening, the night before. I guess I'm not really not a night owl, and I get up early, going to bed early. I'm beating the crowds, including the heat, to the hiking trails which is a smart option, particularly when I'm traveling with my Jo Jo.
There is a lot of driving to be done. I reached Old Faithful by 8 am. I decided to wait, and paid a visit to the visitor center, before this scheduled eruption. I was there to watch it at about 9:30 am.
There were a moderate amount of people, at this time of the day, and I have to say, after my third visit to Yellowstone, this particular eruption wasn't the most flamboyant, but none-the-less a very welcome, and anticipated sight. This is an international destination, so people from all over the world are here.
I headed further north, and arrived at Mammoth Springs. My, how quickly the weather turns from cold, to rather warm, no actually it is hot! I found parking at the very busy Mammoth Springs, and hiked up the boardwalk. I had to leave Jo Jo in the RV, with the generator and air conditioning running. I do worry about him, and am never gone for very long.
After a quick stop at the Obsidian Cliffs and the Sheapeater Cliffs, which were very cool volcanic formed cliffs, I headed towards Canyon Village campsite. I'm lucky that I'm within the park system, otherwise exiting the park, to find surrounding campsites, would be serious hours of driving. This is one massive park. Before settling in, I paid a visit to Yellowstone Falls, including the upper viewpoint: Inspiration Point. Magical!!!
I had a very full day, exhausting, and beautiful, and tomorrow there is more of the same!
