Wolf Sanctuary, Candy Kitchen, New Mexico

Well I didn’t have to go too far, actually, 24 minutes down the road to reach El Morro National Monument. I debated whether I would do this yesterday, once I visited the wolf sanctuary, but I really wanted to spend the night at the Wolf Sanctuary. And I’m so incredibly grateful that I did. I’m not a 100% sound sleeper, and it didn’t bother me that when I was awake in the middle of the night, I would hear the round of howling along with some chirping from the dingoes, the new guinea singing dogs, and perhaps the fox.  It was eerie and unsettling, and incredible, all at the same time. If anyone gets the opportunity to camp overnight across from this sanctuary, I would highly recommend it. What an amazing experience! Having said that, I’m just glad I didn’t get stuck in the silty sand that made up these camp roads. It was pretty soft and steep in areas, so I had to be careful and navigate well. My morning walk with Jo Jo kept these inquisitive wolves right up to the chain-link fence, as they watched us carefully. They are massive, and beautiful beasts.
