Breckenridge, CO

On my way to Breckenridge as it was pouring rain. I managed to find a parking area and headed into the Main Street area. But not until after miss google maps somehow directed me to a residential neighborhood somewhere nearby. It’s not the first time she has misguided me, and it’s mind-boggling as to why, other than an anomaly, or a software glitch. Either way, I got to see the neighborhood up on the hill overlooking Main Street. A beautiful neighborhood, and later on I would find out that these are multi million dollar properties. House upon house, of very nicely kept 4 million dollar properties. Oh my!
I enjoyed window shopping. There were a lot of people here for a Friday, however it is tourist season all summer long. I stopped in to a gallery, but only found one in town. Perhaps I didn’t look hard enough, but there didn’t seem to be an influx of art galleries. As the storms got more intense, I made it back to the Sylver Gypsy. I stopped at three different campsites in this urban area, within Breckenridge, Frisco, and Silverthorne, and no one had openings, since it was a Friday night. I made the decision to head back north on Route 9 towards the forest and Blue River. After a brief drive I came across another Travato at the campsite, and met Jean and Mike with daughter Sarah. They mentioned that site #24 was uninhabited even though it was reserved for at least three nights. So by the time I got to the camp host, Jess, she mentioned that yes, that site was just released, and I immediately grabbed it. My only option was to continue north into the forest to try to find dispersed camping.
Jess, the camp host, was quite sweet, and we had a long conversation about many things including camping etiquette, and just general camping behavior by some of her guests. She hasn’t seen the best behaviors which is quite disheartening. But I have to agree with what she’s discovered, as I see it too.
It continued to rain after I enjoyed a little bit of time at the shores of Blue River. I managed to capture a double rainbow right before bedtime. I felt lucky again to find a place for the night!
