Lower Ansel Watrous Camp, near Fort Collins, CO
July 6, 2022
It was still raining this morning as I headed out further north. Meeker Camp was the most affordable at $7.00 a night. Instead of looking for dog food, I was now looking for a CVS to fill my medication. And in the end I learned that the CVS in Cave Creek messed up my refill back in April. It meant that I didn’t have enough to sustain me for insurance coverage. Needless to say I spent way too much time figuring it out, and I was able to fill my prescription in Fort Collins, almost an hour away from my camp.
However, it could have panned out with the ultimate planning, if I found a Petsmart to fill JoJo’s dog food at the same time. It all took way too much time. I found a campsite back up in the mountains called Lower Ansel Watrous camp. In the Roosevelt National Forest. A beautiful spot along the Cache la Poudre River, where I could literally camp right on the edge listening to the rushing waters for the duration. It was like a reward for the hassles of the early morning. I enjoyed a white water raft come by and beach right along side me and Jo Jo, who had quite the entertainment as they climbed to the shore on top of a rock, to jump in before heading out. Its such a beautiful area of formerly burned out forest, but showing new growth all around. The white noise of the river is quite soothing as I am watching the sunset over the cliffs. And it’s getting noticeably chillier. Finally, I’m down to about 5200 foot elevation. It’s warmer and less dizzying in the heights I have recently experienced. There were a lot of rafters that came by and one that actually beached close to my spot. They climbed out onto the shore and on top of a rock where they jumped in to the river. Of course they’re all way younger than me and all I could think of is that it looked like a lot of fun. Not that I would try it.
