Little Molas Lake, CO, Day Two
August 9, 2022
I decided to take another day here at Little Molas Lake. I jumped into the space next door, as these campers were leaving. This spot had a bit more shade, and a bit more privacy, because when the sun is out, it is piercing!
I didn’t know it, but my Mom and sister hiked this area, the Colorado Trail, in 2014. So I thought of my Mom, for the entire day wondering if I was hiking in her footsteps. It took about an hour and a half as I made my way towards rte 550 and as soon as I saw the highway and the traffic, I turned around. This was a relatively easy hike and there weren’t many people around.
After lunch I decided to break out the clay. The weather here was pretty conducive, mostly cloudy and cool. I was in the mood to make some clay rocks. Some thickly built coil pieces, with an opening, such as a vessel. Upon firing, I’m going to try to glaze them, slightly over firing, to allow the glaze to run. I will fill the void with concrete and place these rocks around my landscaping. It’s just a thought of something that I wanted to create for my home. I have created other clay work during my travels, and this is the last bit of fresh clay that I had left. I certainly was not going to bring home the raw clay, as the whole purpose was to use it to make pieces while I was on my road trip!
By late afternoon it definitely gets chilly and by dusk I had to close up all my windows and doors, and I did set the thermostat, again, to get some heat overnight.
