A Bit of Driving to Dawson City, Yukon

I left early, as I usually do, and made it to Carmacks, a place to fill up for another $87 in gas. I had a nearly 6 hour drive yesterday, so I didn’t want to spend the time driving too much today. However, there’s literally nothing to do along the stretches of this highway, so I followed the crowd and did my share of dodging potholes which are becoming more prevalent. They come up quickly and they’re deep enough so when you hit them it’s a good sounding thud. Two hands on the wheel swerving, back-and-forth, along with the dips going up and down, so at times I felt like I was on a roller coaster. Kind of fun, but kind of unnerving too as it made for a real challenging drive. This highway is built up like a tall berm, with no guard rails, and a very steep decline on the shoulders. Oh yes, and plenty of road construction where the road turns into dirt. I suppose they spent all summer just fixing roads here. After another brief stop, I started looking out for a camp spot, as it was already mid afternoon. I  located a site on Lenore Lake. Fortunately, this time the directions were quite good  and I was able to take the loop down to the edge of the lake. No one was there and I could level out with a little bit of maneuvering. This time I was even closer to the lake than the other times I’ve spent on the lake. Lake magic. It was quite windy and clouding up, looking like a storm was coming in, but it held off until the morning. In the meantime, I took lake water, and did some scrubbing of all the bugs that were stuck to the front end of the Sylver Gypsy. I really think these bugs would make some kind of fabulous superglue, as it was quite the process to soak and scrub. In any case, she looks by far better without all the dead bugs. I should’ve taken a before, and after photo. The next morning, it was sprinkling so I decided to leave promptly as the incline was dirty and potentially muddy. There’s just no way I would want to get stuck out here particularly since I don’t have cell service. The good thing about all of these dispersed sites as they’re fairly close to the highway, yet far enough away to be  private.
