Alaska Museum of the North

I woke up to a driving rain. And before I let Jo Jo out or prepare any breakfast, I decided to leave my little niche to head towards the highway, a few hundred feet away. And sure enough pot holes were full of water, and I did my best to straddle the edges, but it was a very rough quick ride to get out. Whew. My nightmare is that I will be stuck in mud. I do have traction mats, but I really don’t want to ever have to use them. I did well as I settled on top of a dry mound of gravel where I could walk Jo Jo, and prepare my breakfast. I headed towards downtown Fairbanks, on a roller coaster ride. I think I might’ve left a kidney back there as it got to be quite challenging. The roads here in Alaska run the range from really rough to even rougher.

I made it to the University of Alaska and a visit to the Museum of the North. A wonderful museum with history of the area and many artifacts that were impressive, including the carved fossilized ivory. I didn’t want to leave especially since the weather outside is quite blustery for July, at least relative to me, in my neck of the woods. It was in the mid 60s with brisk winds.

On to doing chores. I left to find a Jiffy Lube and had my oil changed, fluids checked, and tires checked. and apparently all is well even after driving on these crazy roads. I will return to the University of Alaska stadium parking, a large gravel parking lot, and upon reading reviews, this apparently is a good place to spend the night. Time will tell, as I’m going to hang around town tomorrow to do a few more…chores.
