New friends, and hanging out, in Fairbanks, AK
Awake at 3:30am to see the fire red sunrise. Wow! The morning was spent doing chores. A visit to Walmart, to buy groceries, then on to a very well deserved RV wash, where I washed off the dust and the silt from the Dalton Highway. And finally a long awaited connection meet up with Carol, from Minnesota, who was also traveling in and around Alaska. We were able to coordinate and cross paths right here in Fairbanks, and found a mutual site to enjoy a wonderful Thai lunch. Carol is traveling with her friend, Lynn, who is from New York City. We enjoyed wonderful conversation then a trip to Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center. My goodness, it was an amazing center that was more like a museum with walk-through exhibits, as well as an interesting video on the history of Fairbanks, and the gateway to the Dalton Highway: Arctic Circle. Carol and Lynn decided to join me at the spacious parking lot, for the overnight camp spot, the shuttle parking lot, at the University of Alaska. It’s nothing special however, it is free, with open space, and most importantly mosquito free. It’s the first time in my travels here, where I was able to set up camp chairs outside, between our two Travatos, and enjoy some spirited drinks, snacks, laughter, and fun for a few hours. What a wonderful day, and evening, and it’s so comfortably warm, actually perfect, to spend some time with my new found friends.
