Talkeetna, AK

I woke up to a brilliant blue sky day, and after my routine, I took my bike out again to the end of Curry Ridge Trail. Even after my fall yesterday, I was still motivated to climb on top of the bike and keep going. I’m sure I would feel differently if I really got badly hurt. I keep saying this, but this was absolutely the best pristine day view of the Denali range. Not a single cloud, not a wispy whisper of a cloud, just Arizona blue sky. As I stood admiring, many other folks came along, and we stood and talked in awe, for the longest time. Steve and Justine from Anchorage, as well as Jason from Tennessee, as well as people from Ohio, Michigan, and Las Vegas. We talked about RV travel and about traveling to Alaska, as well as the changing weather patterns. It was a lot of fun talking to people who are traveling around and about, just like I am. The woman from Ohio was shocked that I was traveling alone and had been driving all the way from Phoenix. She does none of the driving, as her husband does it all. It’s still shocks and amazes me how some people, particularly women, live a very traditional lifestyle.

Jo Jo was back at the RV with the AC running, as the sun was warming and quite piercing, he was comfortably settled in as I pulled all the plugs and got on the road towards the town of Talkeetna, only about an hours drive away. As I headed into the town. it became more and more crowded and busy. I managed to park in the shade and decided to leave Jo Jo, as at this point it was about 2 PM, and I was starving. I knew after he ate his lunch, he would nap. I recalled looking at various restaurants and was interested in a place called Talkeetna Spinach Bread. It was actually a food truck where you ordered from the window, and out came what I would describe as a glorified garlic bread with spinach, loaded with cheese, on a crispy, crunchy, soft crust. Amazing. I ate half, and will keep the rest for another day. It was delicious, as I watched people eating dessert, so I ordered a blueberry rhubarb cobbler with whipped cream. Oh my goodness it was heavenly. I continued walking up and down the street visiting various shops and came across a bunny therapy session outside, where a woman was wrapping tiny, baby bunnies in a cloth cone and handing them out to people like ice cream. Who could resist to snuggle with these bunnies! Bunny therapy. What a awesome idea as every single person had smiles on their faces, with these adorable little creatures. I seriously wanted to take it home as I used to have a bunny, but Jo Jo probably would not like it. I stopped briefly at the grocery store to pick up a bag of Alaska popcorn, and visited a few other galleries and gift shops. What an amazing, comfortable, fun, and relaxing day. Before leaving, I went to the river which was rapidly moving with warning signs, with yet another view of the Denali range, a different perspective. Jo Jo has had quiet a regular schedule for his potty time. And the one time I didn’t take a bag, was the one time I needed a bag. Fortunately, another dog walker had an extra poop bag, as I graciously excepted. One always should be prepared with the doggy. However, this time I dropped the ball. I must’ve been pretty relaxed after that bunny therapy session. After checking several apps, I decided to head eight minutes out of town, where I am parked at a gravel pit. I must have driven past 50 gravel pits from southern Canada, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, and all of Alaska, and this is the first gravel pit I’ve stayed at. It’s so not pretty, as I’m looking at piles of rocks and abandon tires however, beyond that are nice tall green trees. If I can be here alone in peace and quiet, it’s all good.
