The Best View of Denali

My campsite last night was really nice, so I finally broke out my bike and took a fun ride near Byer’s Lake, then a quick visit to a veterans memorial, where I met Leola, who has lived in Anchorage since 1968. She has some insightful information about the town and how it’s changed over the years for the good and bad. Apparently like many cities, homeless encampments are at a crisis. I’m not going to spend much time in the city, as I usually never do.

This morning I awoke to Arizona like blue skies, and I just knew that I had to keep driving to find another view of the mountain. I found Denali Viewpoint South overlook, and saw Miss Denali, as picture perfect as it can get no. Many have said that only 30% of the people that visit ever see this view so I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity. I checked in the campground right around the corner where I was highly motivated to take out my bike once again, and found the trails within the park gorgeous and doable on a bicycle. So much so that after another view I went back to get my sketchbook and returned where I could sit for a couple of hours, sketching Miss Denali, and thankful for the wind that kept the mosquitoes away. I had a wonderful day and I’m truly grateful for my opportunity.
