Hope to Anchorage, AK

August 12:

It was pouring rain this morning, but it didn’t prevent us from going back into town to find some coffee and purchase two lavender lemon muffins, with purple frosted sugar sprinkles. It was delicious and unique. We decided to go back to Dru’s, to find some more of those fun magnets, but sadly, she wasn’t open. We debated on the next step, since it was coming down in buckets, and decided to stop at the Alyeska Resort, to take the tram up the mountain. It was only a five minute tram ride, but it gave us some nice views, above the snow patches, however, limited in rain, which felt more like snow. It was chilly. The ticket included lunch, which we enjoyed before venturing out. I dropped Eileen off quickly at the blueberry festival, where she found a whole pie, which was simply amazing. I am going to spread out the bites over the next several days. We wanted to check out the venue, except it was still pouring rain. We continued our journey towards Anchorage, where I arranged an over night stay at the Alaska Botanical Garden. Fortunately, the rain stopped, and we could enjoy a leisurely walk through a beautiful garden, identifying many plants that we were familiar with, and others that we had never seen. They incorporated some interesting sculptures and vintage cars here as well. After a stop for groceries at Walmart, it was time to drop Eileen off at the airport, as we said goodbye. Our time together went so quickly. It was fun spending time, just the two of us, as we explored the Kenai Peninsula.
