Kluane Lake towards Haines, AK

Burrrrr, and yahoo. Brrrr, It was 35° this morning, but at least the winds calmed down. And yahoo because the sun is peeking out warming up my RV nicely. And in fact, the sun was out all day long. I haven’t seen the sun out or the lack of rain in many days. It’s been raining mostly on and off for more than a week. And grey. I miss the sun. So after a nice little beach, walk I set out on my drive south and in about an hour and a half I made it to Haines Junction, where I filled up for gas and stretched my legs with Jo Jo. They had a garden hose right at the front door where I filled up my water bottles. I got to the Canadian/American border again. I had to be prepared for the interrogation. He asked if I had any fresh produce or meat. I said no it’s all cooked and canned, but I lied as I had a container of carrots and tomatoes. Believe me I did the research before leaving and checked on all the official websites and the rules are all over the map. I have read where people have had simple things confiscated. I was asked if Jo Jo was an American. (He’s really from Mexico) Lots of funny questions, including if all the contents in my RV belonged to me. I think they try to ask weird questions to trip you up. The drive was gorgeous with mountains, luscious green, turning into barren granite, rock mountains, and open plains, where you could see many rivers, lakes, and ponds. I tried hard, looking for wildlife, but only spotted the occasional trumpeter swan family. I stopped before the town of Haines, and even though I used my app, I discovered a pull out along the highway that was easily accessible. It was not posted, so here I am with a view of these mountains, and also the edge of the highway facing a large culvert pipe that goes under the highway. No rain is expected, so I’m not too concerned about water flowing through. Time will tell if I will be left alone for a much needed rest.

  1. Border crossings are no fun!!! Jojo is from Mexico?🤭 The last border crossing I had the guard asked me to open the slider after all the questions. 😬 Freaked me out! Was afraid he'd find the 3 nectarines. Catch me in a lie😖 But he just looked in from the ground and said, "Nice disco ball! I gotta get me a van like this!" Carry on towards home Sylvia! Enjoying your blog!
