Last day in Homer, AK

This morning we visited the local farmers market. It was small, but we found pastry, fruit, and enjoyed seeing the local craft. Eileen and I bought ice cream for later on. We continued on to the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, park of the National Parky system. I enjoyed watching a film on the Aleutian Islands. A very extreme chain of islands, where scientists study birds, fish, and dinosaur fossil foot prints. I spent the rest of my travels keeping an eye open for dinosaur footprints. The islands are barren, yet beautiful, harsh environment, which is a challenge for anyone to get to, and camp while doing their work. Winds can be fierce here.

We stopped at a bakery for yet more goodies, and an art gallery, where I enjoyed their use of buoys to create garden sculpture. We eventually went back to the Mariners Park to secure a camp spot, then returned to the spit to walk the boat harbor. There were so many boats here, and many fishing tours were coming back in for the evening. I made a point of reading all the interesting names of these boats. I spotted a shark head in a tube, which gave me the chills. Yikes. Just the head. Eileen and I enjoyed a dinner at one of the harbor restaurants, after stopping in a few more shops. This was our last night in Homer.
