Leaving Skagway, towards the Yukon
I headed into a Skagway towards the visitor center and was able to get in right at 9 AM. I wanted to see the 30 minute film, which I don’t recall seeing 28 years ago, but it was an excellent review of the Klondike gold rush, and how Skagway came to be. The men that came here saw fame and fortune, hoping to find gold, but actually very few did. Many of them perished. Many of them stayed, and many of them left to go back home. These exhibits were excellent, and showed the challenges involved in finding the elusive gold. I walked a little bit more of the town and bought a bag of gourmet Parmesan garlic popcorn, before heading back towards the Sylver Gypsy, parked in the shade, where JoJo was resting. I heard the river next-door to me and lo and behold, the salmon seem to have returned to their original spawning destination. There were hundreds of salmon, many of them, dead and dying, and others splashing around. I was surprised at how many I saw here, and also surprised that I didn’t see bear. This would’ve been the ultimate smorgasbord. I headed towards the Canadian border, but not until I found an area that was absolutely stunning. One of the most beautiful scenes with aqua blue waters in various tidal-like pools, obviously glacial melt, rocks, islands, and glaciers in the distance. This was above the tree line with limitless views. Truly, I wanted to just park my camp chair here and sketch, but I had to keep moving.
Beautiful photos!!
