Finding Fossilized Wood near Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

Image
My own version of social distancing is in northern Arizona. I am next to the closed Petrified Forest National Park, and the only one here. All I hear is the howling wind, and all I see is no one. My fur pup, Jo Jo, is barking at the wind to keep things lively. Rockhounding in no-mans land tomorrow. Love this..... I went to sleep with snow flurries and woke up to 27° with clear skies. The Sylver Gypsy had frost on her eyes... a first. What a fabulous day rockhounding for petrified wood in northern Arizona. This family business is DoBell Ranch, established long before Petrified National Park was created, and in business since 1936. Rhonda and her family went all out to help us select some great pieces, and also offered up a barbeque hamburger chili bean lunch.  I was escorted by Leaha,  who helped pick up these rocks to place them in my RV. What a thrill to find a group of wild donkeys, listen to lapping waters, and enjoy orange skies. We are close to "desert in bloom" here in Arizona, with some flowering brittle bush and lupine just starting to bloom. I was extra lazy on day one. Along with organizing some tax papers, I decided to crack open a bag of pecans. My sister gives me a bag, each year at Christmas, courtesy of her neighbor, and they are really sweet and delicious. I hope to mix in some baker's unsweetened chocolate, with stevia, to make a "sugar free" chocolate bark. I did this in the partial shade over looking the lake, while Jo Jo was on patrol for any strangers. He decided to crawl underneath the Sylver Gypsy, having a down under view from the other side. I had to pull in the  r
