Tucson Gem Show

Image
After a very slow start, we headed towards the City of Tucson. I wanted to return to the Ramada Inn, for the gem show, and as we pulled in, we realized the show was breaking down. Technically, February 12th, was the last day of the show. However right across the street, towards the Motel 6, there were several exhibitors still open and ready for business. It was rather warm today, so I always have to think about Jo. He stayed in the kangaroo pouch which was safe from the crowds. I didn't have any specific items on my shopping list but one piece caught my eye. It was a rough carved rock shaped into a bowl with two highly polished fossils on the edge. I had not seen a piece like this, as all the other fossil like items are highly polished, and non-functional. The price was right. The vendor told me it was a birdbath. Then he looked at Jo Jo, and said...or a dog bowl. I decided to use it as a bowl to store my other fossil finds. It was fun browsing and by early afternoon we were ready

Open houses, and Tumacacori Mission

Image
I t was a bit difficult to tear away from a place that felt so good. We headed down the street and encountered a few homes for sale and stopped into an open house model. This is a quickly developing area. We wound up down the road near the Tubac golf course and visited yet another open house where we connected with a realtor. We moved on to a slightly older, mature subdivision which was so beautiful, and backed up towards a creek. We wanted to spend even more time here, but we also wanted to take time to visit the Tumacacori Spanish Mission. Which is also a National Park. I'm always excited to use my senior pass, and we spent a little while roaming the grounds. It's been a long time since I visited and I feel that restorations have come a long way. I'm very grateful that we had enough smarts in this country to set aside parks and historical monuments where we can learn about and value the history throughout the country. We already made up our minds to go back to our camp si

Art and Coincidence

Eileen met up with a fellow dog walker this morning, whose name is Kate. She invited us over for happy hour in the afternoon. After a leisurely morning we walked towards the art show, but decided to start first with some of the shops in the area. There was a copper studio with a purple haired woman, who chatted with us regarding using wood, from the forest, after a local fire. They go through the forest and collect wood carve it up, and incorporate it into their copper sculpture. We ran into her later in the day, where she offered us some greek tzatziki sauce french fires, right there in the middle of the street. We declined, but appreciated the hospitable gesture.  We also chatted with two oil painters and continued on to the Historical Society where I purchased a sterling silver pendant that is a replica of the Franciscan Mission Spanish coins found in this area. I figure wearing Saint Francis is definitely a good luck charm.  We admired the local architecture of adobe structures, an

Tubac Trailer & Teather, Tubac, Arizona

I am an early riser, and took Jo Jo out to a beautiful sunrise. It's so fascinating seeing the shadows in the light hit mountains, looking so differently from the night before, but equally beautiful.  We glided down the mountain easily and headed towards town to find propane. We wound up at a place called Tubac Trailer and Teather, were Dennis filled me up with a tank of propane, so heating soup will be a piece of cake now.  We discussed where we would park for the day as the art show was conveniently right across the street. They wanted $8.00 for show parking. We also discussed where we would spend the night and realized that it would either be back up on that mountain, or further south towards the Mexican border. I'm glad that the light bulbs in the brain were working today, thinking we would ask, if by chance, Dennis had room in this very small RV Park. And yes he did for $27 a night with electric hookup, and showers!!! It was like winning the lottery, since we thought, why

Tubac, Arizona

Heading south to the little town of Tubac, Arizona, where our mission was to visit the art show. This is a trip that my friend, Eileen, and I put off over the last couple of years because of the pandemic. The weather was looking good. Clear blue skies, and all was a go. We stopped to have lunch at my friend's sister-in-laws restaurant. It's a Culver's burger place where I enjoyed a bacon cheeseburger and of course ice cream for dessert. I enjoyed our visit with these lovely people, and what a treat to be treated to lunch! We didn't stay long as Jo Jo was left in the RV, but fortunately the weather was quite comfortable.  Using my many apps, I found a site in the Coronado National Forest, just north of Tubac. The initial directions took us to a place that was already occupied. So we continued up the mountain and found a place where I managed to back in after moving a few larger rocks. We enjoyed an early happy hour and watched the sunset over the majestic valley below. I
