Livonia, and Stony Brook State Park, NY

Image
After a very rainy day window shopping in antique stores, I spent a night at Honeyhill Farm, in Livonia. Sue and Fred were so gracious (harvesthost.com), and invited me to happy hour, on their back deck, where I enjoyed a reminiscent, and refreshing Genesee beer. Fred raises grass fed black angus beef, and was a software engineer at Xerox. Sue is a rock hound, so we talked about rocks and fossils. She gave me a fossil from Ireland, and I gave her one from my recent finds at Allegheny State Park. I slept well next to their red barn, and listened to the bull frogs in their pond, which brought back fond memories. My parents had a bullfrog pond too. I spent a day near and in and around Honeyoe Falls. I visited a few more antique shops, the historic Lower Falls Gallery, and Vitale Park, which is on Conesus Lake. Finally, I arrived at friend, Jan's house, and we shared a wonderful meal, and conversation. We talked about everything, and stayed up until almost midnight, which I have not d

Letchworth State Park, Central New York

There was a national pole that voted Letchworth State Park the most popular State Park in the country!  It's been decades since I've been to this park and have fond memories camping with my parents as a child. This destination is a beautiful pitstop on my way towards Rochester. I was able to get a campsite right inside the park, in a serene wooded area. And what first struck me was the amazing smell of pine trees. It's smelled so good. I spent a couple days here hiking on trails and viewing the beautiful cascading waterfalls. Jo Jo and I hiked along the the upper, middle, and lower falls, on the Genesee River, which is the only river that cuts all the way through New York State, spilling into Lake Ontario, in Rochester. I met several really nice people, including a couple from Maryland, on the trail, who's parents went to the same Catholic school that I did as a child. I find it really interesting, that if you have enough conversation, it's true what they say about

Jamestown, NY, home of Lucy

On my way to Jamestown, New York, which is about 40 minutes from Allegany State Park. It's the home of Lucille Ball. For those of you in my peer group, I am sure you remember the "I Love Lucy" series well. It was actually filmed well before my birth, however the reruns kept me entertained during my childhood for many years. In the museum, I enjoyed watching videos and reading up about her life, and seeing many of the props, dresses and shoes. The studio portion of the museum was a recreation of the TV set including the living room and kitchen. It was a lot of fun watching some of the most memorable scenes including the scene from the chocolate factory, where she couldn't keep up with wrapping the chocolates, and stuffed them in her mouth instead. Classic. Lucy never even needed to utter a word, as her facial expressions alone could make you laugh. I also went to the memorial park to view the bronze statue's of the "good" Lucy versus "ugly" Lucy
