North Pole to Fairbanks, AK

Well, another day of rain here, as my Boon-docking site next to the pond was perfect. I headed out and wound up at the North Pole, yes, where Santa and Mrs. Claus hash out all the toys with the elves for Christmas. Well, it was probably the most cliché place you’ve ever been to, and very Christmasy with fully decorated trees, along with Santa and a line for those young and young of heart. The motorcycle gang just arrived and they had dibs on Santa. I got a latte milkshake and hit the road towards Fairbanks. Well, I had to break down and go to Walmart and I spent a fortune on food staples, which were much more affordable here, as well as a bug zapping tennis racket. I stopped a few other times to find a lantern bug zapping device as well. I tried out the racket, and it worked! When you hit the mosquitoes, the device sparks blue, and makes a zapping sound. I didn’t even see the mosquitoes, and I was nailing them. I laughed so hard that Jo Jo  just started barking which made me laugh ev

My camp was pretty nice while I had a birdseye view for at least a few dozen miles all the way around. I got up at 3:30 AM and took a peek outside to a stunning view of the sunset, or was it the sunrise? A beautiful view of the sun low in the midnight sky. I was only about 18 miles from Delta Junction, which I headed towards, mid morning. This morning I needed to do some chores. The dump station, and a rather awkward, filling of fresh potable water, much of which runs the range from a threaded garden hose, to nothing more than a thin half inch hose, which didn’t work with any of my adapters. But I was able to fill my tank directly from underneath my bed, a technique which I have not had to often utilize. I got a much needed RV wash and a gas tank fill before I headed to the visitor center for my acknowledgment certificate for completing the 1422 mile Alcan, the Alaska highway. Granted I took a slight detour when I headed down to Valdez and McCarthy, switching back a slightly differen

I left Dry Creek camp. Fortunately the wind was enough to keep the mosquitoes from killing us, as Jo Jo and I did a little morning stroll. I hit the road and programmed Google maps to Delta Junction. I drove through a lot of forest, what I call a hobbit forest, with the tall, thin stickly spruce. Eventually, I climbed up to a summit, a glacial area, which was absolutely stunning, above the tree line, and I even passed by what looks like a little village with brand new homes, in the middle of nowhere. From a distance, it look like snow falling on the mountains, and I saw glimpses of glacier and puffy clouds that seemed to roll fiercely with the wind. I continued on up and down some stunning mountain ranges. I encountered several sections of the Alaska pipeline, the Valdez pipeline. Where I was able to park, and go right up to the pipe, and touch it. I was a bit surprised to see that it looked like a piece of sheet metal! The kind that would be in your house, like your furnace ductwork
