Delta Junction, AK

My camp was pretty nice while I had a birdseye view for at least a few dozen miles all the way around. I got up at 3:30 AM and took a peek outside to a stunning view of the sunset, or was it the sunrise? A beautiful view of the sun low in the midnight sky. I was only about 18 miles from Delta Junction, which I headed towards, mid morning. This morning I needed to do some chores. The dump station, and a rather awkward, filling of fresh potable water, much of which runs the range from a threaded garden hose, to nothing more than a thin half inch hose, which didn’t work with any of my adapters. But I was able to fill my tank directly from underneath my bed, a technique which I have not had to often utilize. I got a much needed RV wash and a gas tank fill before I headed to the visitor center for my acknowledgment certificate for completing the 1422 mile Alcan, the Alaska highway. Granted I took a slight detour when I headed down to Valdez and McCarthy, switching back a slightly different route, but as far as I’m concerned, I finished the Alcan. After a quick visit to the museum, and the farmers markets for some goodies, I headed down the road, enjoying some more beautiful views, including two encounters with a moose, one with her baby. Sweet! I found a free campsite near the Tanana River. I decided to finish carving the last four wooden boards out of 14, where I would only have to do some sanding and painting before I can store them away. I stayed inside the RV as the mosquitoes are still pretty insistent. There was plenty of sawdust that I cleaned up and it actually is one of the warmest days so far on my entire journey. The inside of my RV is 81° and I finally stripped down to my summer clothes. But that wasn’t quite enough, as I just had a speeding thought of jumping in the pond, which I’m parked right next to. So I did it. I went skinny-dipping in the pond and washed my hair, and did it quickly, even though the water wasn’t that cold. But the neighborhood mosquitoes found me, so I indeed made it all very quick. I was just hoping that another camper wouldn’t come along for the show. I’m completely refreshed and relaxed… and hoping for a fabulous night.
