Livonia, and Stony Brook State Park, NY
After a very rainy day window shopping in antique stores, I spent a night at Honeyhill Farm, in Livonia. Sue and Fred were so gracious (harvesthost.com), and invited me to happy hour, on their back deck, where I enjoyed a reminiscent, and refreshing Genesee beer. Fred raises grass fed black angus beef, and was a software engineer at Xerox. Sue is a rock hound, so we talked about rocks and fossils. She gave me a fossil from Ireland, and I gave her one from my recent finds at Allegheny State Park. I slept well next to their red barn, and listened to the bull frogs in their pond, which brought back fond memories. My parents had a bullfrog pond too.
I spent a day near and in and around Honeyoe Falls. I visited a few more antique shops, the historic Lower Falls Gallery, and Vitale Park, which is on Conesus Lake. Finally, I arrived at friend, Jan's house, and we shared a wonderful meal, and conversation. We talked about everything, and stayed up until almost midnight, which I have not done in quite some time!
The next morning, I decided to go to Stony Brook State Park about 20 minutes south of Jan's house. I had never been to this park. I was able to hike the Gorge Trail, which included steep inclines with many steps right along the gorge. There are about 8 beautiful waterfalls, and I decided to take a dip right at the edge of a couple of them. I spent several hours here and sat next to the last, and most magestic waterfall, really appreciating the view and the warm weather. I definitely got my workout with all of those stairs, and wore poor JoJo out. He couldn't wait to crawl into my backpack to take a nap.
Jan and I wound up sharing an evening meal together in a restaurant that used to be a train station. The ambience, food, and conversation was wonderful. It was a fun visit with Jan and Richard. I spent another very peaceful night parked alongside her creek, listening to the trickling waters. It's a very special place indeed.
