Eileen met up with a fellow dog walker this morning, whose name is Kate. She invited us over for happy hour in the afternoon. After a leisurely morning we walked towards the art show, but decided to start first with some of the shops in the area. There was a copper studio with a purple haired woman, who chatted with us regarding using wood, from the forest, after a local fire. They go through the forest and collect wood carve it up, and incorporate it into their copper sculpture. We ran into her later in the day, where she offered us some greek tzatziki sauce french fires, right there in the middle of the street. We declined, but appreciated the hospitable gesture. We also chatted with two oil painters and continued on to the Historical Society where I purchased a sterling silver pendant that is a replica of the Franciscan Mission Spanish coins found in this area. I figure wearing Saint Francis is definitely a good luck charm.
We admired the local architecture of adobe structures, and found one large building for sale. I dreamt about the idea of developing it into studios and retail as it would have been quite the charming spot. We went on through the art show again, and after buying some wine returned to the RV. I definitely took advantage of that shower, however my friend Eileen got a bit spooked and wanted to come check on me. I heard a man's voice, and when finished, Dennis was waiting for me, and questioned where my RV was, and how much I paid for my spot?! It was rather confusing since I thought he would certainly have known who we were after 24+ hours, and you know, no one forgets Jo Jo.
It was time for happy hour, and we visited with Kate, who is an author, and has loved living in Tubac for several years. We had conversation back and forth about the town, dogs, work, and suddenly we learned that we are both Nazareth College of Rochester graduates! I graduated in 1981, and she in 1982. It still blows my mind that I could meet anyone with this in common, in a very small town like Tubac. We bought one of her books. My friend Eileen and I were both struck with the overwhelming desire to move down here since it has a lot of art, studios, an Arts Center, Historical Center, and some really nice people. Yet another wonderful and truly inspiring day.
