Finding Fossilized Wood near Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona
My own version of social distancing is in northern Arizona. I am next to the closed Petrified Forest National Park, and the only one here. All I hear is the howling wind, and all I see is no one. My fur pup, Jo Jo, is barking at the wind to keep things lively. Rockhounding in no-mans land tomorrow. Love this.....
I went to sleep with snow flurries and woke up to 27° with clear skies. The Sylver Gypsy had frost on her eyes... a first. What a fabulous day rockhounding for petrified wood in northern Arizona. This family business is DoBell Ranch, established long before Petrified National Park was created, and in business since 1936. Rhonda and her family went all out to help us select some great pieces, and also offered up a barbeque hamburger chili bean lunch.
I was escorted by Leaha, who helped pick up these rocks to place them in my RV. I asked her how old she was. She was only twelve going on thirteen (or 27) next month. She was amazing, and so strong picking up rocks that I could barely handle myself. These people live in some of the most remote places anywhere in this country. I got screaming deals over these beautiful petrified wood rocks that I can't wait to carry out of my RV, that is after I get the bionic back to do so. This is when a husband comes in handy, ladies. It was a long day but I absolutely enjoyed it, LOVED IT! The other rockhounds are really nice too. I feel so very lucky. Stayed tuned for more art using these gems....
