Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

​June 30, 2022 Well the day has come, when I arrived at Rocky Mountain National Park! Of course there is a long delay, a lineup for entry and you can’t get in the park unless you pre-ordered entry tickets, or have a camping reservation. There were at least two other checkpoints before I was allowed to enter into the campground. It’s almost like there was high security, but really it was just to manage the masses of people that come to visit this park or any other major national park, especially in the summer. I got to Bear Lake Corridor Trails, at 6:20am, to find parking, where I did a .5 mile loop trail, then Alberta Falls, for a total of 2.5 miles. On the way back I stopped for a .75 mile hike at Sprague Lake. It was so beautiful, and the weather was so perfect for hiking. And yes, there were tons and tons of people. The Old Fall River Road just opened up on July 1. So I managed to get here for the inaugural drive through this 9 mile one-way stretch through the highest part of Rocky ...

Camp Dick to Rocky Mountain, CO

​June 29, 2022 I’m really enjoying the roadway here on route 72 as I head north towards Estes Park. I stayed two nights a Kelly Dahl, which is just outside of the town of Nederland. As I went there daily to get reception and to enjoy more of the town including a visit to the Blue Moon Bakery, where I enjoyed the best raspberry muffin, and then a chocolate coconut macaroon. I also stopped in the alpaca store and bought myself a alpaca wool headband covering my ears but allowing my hair to be wild and free. I have a thing about getting hat hair, as it’s not my most flattering feature. I’ve had my eyes open for a winter hat and this seems like it was the right choice, and it’s so warm! I met Beau, and Ellen from Lake Havasu, neighbors at Kelly Dahl, and we talked about our travels. I mentioned a group called rainbow campers who were planning to set up camp somewhere in the north central area of Colorado. After texting his family, they mentioned up to 80,000 campers in the forest. We both ...
