Utah to Arizona and home

Image
I woke up to the full moon this morning at dawn. I couldn't get over the colors of these cliffs across the street. They seriously were beautiful last night, but this morning they took on different effect in shades of red and white striped mounds which reminded me of the Painted Desert in Arizona. Off to Page, AZ., I went, which was only about 30 minutes while I stopped at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. Unfortunately they were closed but I did sneak a peek of the dam from the parking lot and walked along the bridge to take some photos. F or a moment I felt like I might have had too much caffeine, feeling a little jittery, but then I realized it was the bridge vibrating and shaking with the traffic. A little unsettling as we were pretty high off the ground. I drove along to another lookout area and got a glimpse of the river below. The views of Lake Powell in these cliffs were really quite stunning. It's the first time I have been to Page. I knew I had to get going as I descende...

Grand Staircase Escalante Monument, and toadstool hoo-doos

I have absolutely no regrets at spending my second night here in my blm canyon spot, after leaving Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park. I claimed it as my own for a second night in a row. Whoo! I headed out towards the town of Kanab. And as I was driving along the inclines, and declines, I noticed my new hairline windshield crack actually move another 6in longer, right before my eyes. Freaky! I turned off my windshield heater. Something hit it a few days ago, and it was stable, at about 8 inches, until now, it has grown to about 15 inches. I located the local Napa Auto Shop, wondering about getting crazy glue, and the clerk indicated that I would be okay to drive, but perhaps I might be flagged by the police for having a cracked windshield. Hmmm, was he right, or wrong? A google search had mixed reviews. I'm taking a chance that I can get back to the Phoenix area to get a new windshield replacement before an issue occurs. So, I drove on another 30 minutes until I got to the toadstool ...

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, UT

Burrrr, what a chilli morning. It was 27˚ and the Sylver Gypsy had frost all over the windshield, hood, and headlights. It was a quick and brisk walk this morning with JoJo. I made a quick pit stop after reading about a cave that you can walk into, right around the corner. I will need to do some research to see if it was man-made or natural, as it's connected to a wash system with some man-made barricades. I didn't actually go inside since there was a rather steep climb, and I wasn't much interested in taking that chance today.  So I only have about a 25-minute drive to get to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. I made a reservation there a couple of days ago, but I should have actually waited instead. I didn't have to pay the $10 entry fee, as my camping reservation took care of this. I spent about an hour walking the sand dunes, and it had warmed up enough in the sun to be quite comfortable. I didn't quite make it to the very top of the largest dune, but I did a fai...
