Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, UT

Burrrr, what a chilli morning. It was 27˚ and the Sylver Gypsy had frost all over the windshield, hood, and headlights. It was a quick and brisk walk this morning with JoJo.

I made a quick pit stop after reading about a cave that you can walk into, right around the corner. I will need to do some research to see if it was man-made or natural, as it's connected to a wash system with some man-made barricades. I didn't actually go inside since there was a rather steep climb, and I wasn't much interested in taking that chance today.

So I only have about a 25-minute drive to get to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. I made a reservation there a couple of days ago, but I should have actually waited instead. I didn't have to pay the $10 entry fee, as my camping reservation took care of this. I spent about an hour walking the sand dunes, and it had warmed up enough in the sun to be quite comfortable. I didn't quite make it to the very top of the largest dune, but I did a fair share of dredging through the sand, to the point that a woman actually noticed. She commented that I really went out quite far on the dunes. I said yes, I did, and it's an optical illusion, as well, that the steep hills up and down aren't really evident from the observation deck. It was a workout! I'm glad I did this hike, and the only issues up to that point were that dozens of ATV vehicles were buzzing all around, so you had to make sure that you wouldn't get run over.

After a quick visit to the visitor center and museum showcasing the plant and animal life, I took a very nice, and amazing, long hot shower. RV showers are not quite the same treat. I went back to my RV and did some reading, all the while listening to rather disruptive background noises. Grinding ATV engines, revving, popping engines, squeals, buzzing, boisterous loud obnoxious laughter, shouting, yelling, slamming doors, hooting, chanting, etc. At about 3pm in the afternoon. It all got on my main nerve...ugh.

I made a decision at about 3:30pm in the afternoon. Wondering if I should stay, and even though I spent $33.00 to camp here, there are no hookups, and also no cell reception. So I asked myself why should I stay if I can go back to my last night's spot, which is a mere 25 minutes away? I would have to backtrack down this roadway to get to rte 89 anyway, for my continuing journey, so in essence it's only about a 10-15 minute backtrack. So taking off in the Sylver Gypsy is a dream. There's very little to do to get roadworthy, within a few minutes, other than put away a dish or a pan and clean up the counter so nothing flies off of it as I'm driving. It's simply jump in the front seat, turn the key and go, which is what I did as I headed back to last night's camp spot. So, I joked with Jim, and my sisters that I had myself the best $33.00 shower that money could buy. And I also rinsed off the dust on the Sylver Gypsy, as well, before leaving, at the dump station. Granted, I enjoyed my time on the dunes, and got some exercise, but the neighborhood company was not my taste at all. This was an exclusive ATV entertainment destination, and not a place to find a peaceful escape. So back I went to last night's more peaceful abode. Don't you just love it when there are options?
