Visiting York, PA.
Barb and I hit the road checking out York, and the exhibitors in the Made in America visiting tour, which features shops, galleries, wineries, and farms that make local items. Our first stop was at an alpaca farm which was only about 5 minutes from her house. We were able to come right into the gated area and pet, and touch the alpacas. They were freshly shorn, just a few weeks ago, so they had a funny short hairdo at the top of their heads. They seemed quite friendly and relaxed with all the people around them. I bought myself a pair of purple alpaca socks, and I really wanted to take an alpaca home. We stopped downtown to visit a couple of other shops, a glass studio, and a soap studio where Barb sells her handmade clay soap dishes. This was a busy shop which also demonstrated the soap making process, as well as offering classes to people who want to make their own soap. I bought a few "flavors" including honeysuckle. The owner just got her line into wholefoods, and she will he part of an upcoming movie. www.sunrisesoapco.com. People were nice, and friendly and welcoming. We also stopped at the York farmers market, and had lunch at a counter, enjoying panini sandwiches, after quite a bit of walking. And apparently having done that, we earned homemade gelato for dessert!
