Base Camp, Penfield, NY
I'm staying on a beautiful spot in a wooded lot next to my cousin's house in Penfield New York. We took a drive to enjoy the Fourth of July celebration, actually on July 3rd, to Conesus Lake. At 10 p.m. they had the "ring of fire" where the lake houses and cottages all burned flares along the lake's edge, along with sending off fireworks. It was very festive, and we enjoyed a barbecue dinner with some gracious hosts, friends of my cousins. I've been busy connecting with friends and family to set up meeting dates and visits. While visiting (drive by) my childhood houses, and my former homes, I was able to connect with the people that purchased my mother's and father's house. I'm looking forward to meeting them on Monday night for a visit. With any luck I'll get to tour the house to see what changes, if any were made. I'm pretty excited about it as I have not been in my parent's house for at least 12 years. I also got to visit my sister-in-law and shared a delicious lunch with her and her husband. It's been at least 12 years since I have seen her home as well, yet everything seemed familiar, as if I never left, even for a day. My niece, with her adorable twin girls, stopped by as well. In the evening I spent time at Hamlin Beach State Park right on Lake Ontario with my cousins. For days and days now it has been steamy hot, about 92 to 94 degrees, with high humidity. At some point you hit the wall with all of that heat, and you're completely worn out and exhausted. You're seeking air conditioning at any cost. So we piled into my RV, which was fortunately plugged into 30 amp, and ran the AC while we played cards. Glamping. Fortunately it has cooled down overnight, and today it is quite pleasant, only in the mid-70s! My goodness, what a difference a day makes.
