Bar Harbor ("Ba Ha Bah") and More Fun
On my final day in Bar Harbor, I decided to take some time and go through the town, visiting the various shops, including some of the fine art and craft galleries. I enjoyed lunch outdoors at an Irish Pub, watching people depart off of the cruise ships. Yes, there were tons of people, it's absurdly crowded. I ended the afternoon with some blueberry ice cream. Everything is blueberries here. They are in season. You can find chocolate, tea, even coffee infused with blueberries. Eventually, I made my way to Shalom Organic Farms just north of Bar Harbor. As part of my Harvest Hosts membership, I decided to spend the night here, and sampled some local organic wines. I loved the apple and blueberry wine, but he was fresh out of stock, so I selected the pear wine to take home. This is a working farm. The owner's son came in, and his kids wanted to ride one of their sheep. So I enjoyed watching that, as the little boy got knocked off. We also fed some apples to the horses. They were sweet.
I wish I could say my overnight was event free, but little Jo Jo had some kind of diarrhea, and so there was a bit of cleanup. He's a funny boy and doesn't really give a cry when he has to go, but he starts shaking his body is if he's got water to shake off. I got him outside. Anyway, I managed to divert diarrhea disaster several times in the middle of the night, just to awaken to even more fun. Over the last few days I've had trouble with my plumbing. Suffice it to say, if you don't have your toilet working, it's a problem. So without going into too much detail, I wound up with a trip to Home Depot for some serious tools, and managed to get the system functioning again. However, I would not trade back that experience again, and would gladly do an additional 10 years of cleaning out my cat litter box instead. I have a newfound respect for plumbers and septic tank cleaners. Yes, Clorox is my friend. So after half a day, and that emotional upheaval, I am now at another campsite, testing the system. It was too early for wine, so instead, I am the only one enjoying the pool, while I am laundering everything that I own, at their laundromat. There is actually nobody around here, at this particular campsite. No people. Nothing, but the wind and birds. Peace and quiet. Oh joy. With any luck, tomorrow, I will resume my "tourist mode" and head back out on the open road.
