The Adirondacks

I made it to Syracuse for a quick catch up visit with friend, Elizabeth, from high school. She used to take good care of my former home. Her sweet dog, Roscoe, and JoJo, took a walk at Onondaga Park, on Hiawatha Lake. After a visit to Planet Fitness, I drove back to spend the night on her street, near the park. Fortunately it was a cool, quiet, and comfortable night, in a neighborhood, circa 1930's. I was just a tad concerned, as a few blocks over it was what I would consider a challenging neighborhood. But, I am always prepared to leave, if necessary. I wasn't bothered a bit by anything, and slept well. The next day I headed up to Boonville, New York, a small town just outside of the Adirondacks. I stayed with my friend, Diane, who I also met for dinner recently while she was in Rochester. She lives in a rural, and peaceful ranch house. We enjoyed a day trip that starting out by walking the dogs along one of the many man made canal's that were used for logging purposes, and now part of public works. Followed by picking lucious blueberries at a u-pick farm, as I sampled several blueberries, fresh off of the bush. I have about 3 pounds in my refrigerator. Yumm. The temperature zone is considered zone 3. Like all fruits and vegetables, certain plants need that climate to produce well, and blueberries do well here. You won't find other crops grown here such as tomatoes or beans, since the growing season is short. Its 30 degrees below zero here, in the dead of winter.....oh my. We went on to beautiful Buttermilk Falls which is between Forked Lake and Long Lake, for a quick hike and a picnic lunch. Then on to the Adirondack Experience which is a museum that I have visited in the past. But, they have new exhibits here and it has really evolved. It is the best way to learn about the Adirondacks, the logging, tapping of maple syrup, as well as the Native American culture. We were able to watch and chat with a Mohawk basket maker, which was quite inspiring. We spent a few hours driving today and on the way home we stopped at the Game and Fish Club for a fundraiser pasta dinner. For $11, we had a monster load of food. After spending some time with our doggies, and watching The Dog Whisperer TV show, I spent another peaceful night in the Sylver Gypsy. JoJo is doing really well and I noticed a big improvement in his energy today. Maybe I will start to relax thinking he will have a full recovery.....
