Niagara Falls, New York

Heading west out of Rochester, I decided to visit Niagara Falls. I did not bring my passport to Canada, so I am here to explore the American side. And to my surprise, it was quite a wonderful view, and walk through this state park. I paid the $3 fee to take the trolley which drops you off at various points. I was able to get right up to the edge of the American Falls, and also the Horseshoe Falls, which is more famously known as Niagara Falls. This park has been renovated over the years and quite lovely, compared to what I remember as a child. It certainly has come a long way. It was pretty hot, today, and I spent an extra amount of time at the Horseshoe Falls enjoying the cooling mist sprayed all over me. It was fun people watching, seeing the "maid of the mist" boat rides, and surprizingly the level of international visitors by far, seemed to outnumber American visitors. I guess it is an international destination. I also took a stroll into Three Sister Island, especially since I am one of three sisters. Its a really unique spot where you can watch the raging class 6 rapids flow, as they cascade in a puff of mist, over the falls. One can really appreciate the power of the water, and just how much water goes through this area, continually.... since the beginning of time! It's one big river. JoJo was along with me the entire time, so we got quite a bit of walking in today. I enjoyed talking about the Sylver Gypsy with Marc, the park security guard. She sure is a magnet, it seems.

I headed out in the late afternoon, and wound up at Chautauqua Gorge State Forest, which is near Chautauqua and the town of Mayville, New York. It was a stunningly quiet and peaceful, evening amongst the goldenrod, aster, and tall pine trees. Right where I like it. How I love, and will miss New York state!
