PCH

Boondocking in Southern California is becoming a challenge. However with my many apps I was able to locate a spot right along the Pacific California Highway. I was able to park right alongside the ocean for the night. The directions on the app was somewhat off, so I sought out a new looking Mercedes Class B, RV, similar to mine, and talked to Steve. I certainly feel like I'm in Southern California, as he immediately offered me a margarita. I politely declined, although tempted, as I needed to get back to my RV, because JoJo was in there by himself. Steve told me "by all means you can park here, no one will bother you, as I have been here for six weeks myself." So that was good enough for me. Later on, I met the father of this little chihuahua, "Eva my Diva," (via Instagram), who gave me some tips on training dogs. As a trainer he said I should loosen the leash and let JoJo freely follow me down the rocky cliff, towards the water. I laughed...a lot, and I said no doubt, Jo Jo would certainly follow me, however I don't go down a rocky cliff without my hiking poles. He said no worries, grab onto my arm. I've got you.

I have to say I went to bed chuckling for all this unusual attention. It was lovely waking up, rolling up the shades, and seeing the edge of the water literally 30 feet from where I was parked. Steve told me that in a little while they will be restricting campers from staying on this highway. The residents in the area don't seem to like it, and there are changes on the horizon. So perhaps I had my last opportunity to do so and I'm glad I did.

  1. No idea there was any boondocking in such places! Hope it is there next time we are wandering in SoCal. Our favorite stopping place is Carpinteria State Beach-- not free.

    1. I stayed a night at Carpenteria State Park. Staying on the PCH is tricky at best. There are few signs, and some will tell you its an 8 hour stay max, others will say no parking at all. You may get away with many more options than I was willing to take. I didnt want the 1am knock on my door, so I tended to research and find a place that seemed acceptable. Happy trails!
