Clamming in OR

Well this morning I went "clamming" with Maria and Jim. It was a negative tide, and optimal conditions at the beach. We headed back to Oregon, about a 20-minute drive, as Washington has suspended their clamming for the time being. We were at the beach at about 6:45 a.m. Their four-wheel drive jeep took us right onto the beach, and yes reminded me of my beaching trauma from last year. However, everything went fine and it was actually fun. I wasn't dressed all that well and wore my Crocs so my feet were wet and cold for a couple of hours while Jim continued to find 9 razor clams. The limit is 15 a day, but it was difficult locating them. It seems like there were hundreds of people there, as far as the eye could see, doing exactly the same thing. Apparently they are a delicacy in this area. I don't eat clams, however it was interesting watching how they are harvested using a long tube to dig into the sand and then pulling it up to find the clam. Jim made it look easy but unfortunately his tool developed a crack which made it difficult to use effectively. By the time we got back to their RV, a couple of hours were spent cleaning these clams, as there is quite a bit of sand, and science to doing that. We continued our walk down "nostalgia row," talking about year's past, including her Mom, which is my Grandmother.

Later on we went to a garlic festival in Oysterville, Washington. The sun was trying to come out this whole time, however the temperature really never got above 60 degrees. I picked up a bottle of creamy garlic sauce. We sampled nuts, olives, spices, and shared an ice cream. Even Jo Jo got a spoonful of vanilla.

Jim hit the grill for steaks, for dinner, and we basically enjoyed a picnic.

I was a bit concerned about the Sylver Gypsy, as she has been sitting idle at an RV park, for a few days now. So I ran the engine for a while, and it was just enough for the night to keep my batteries going for the refrigerator.

It gently rained overnight.
