West towards Ocean City, WA
I'm heading west towards the ocean which is in about an hour from Lake Sylvia. It started to pour rain, so I took advantage of the weather and stopped at the Dollar Store for some staples, and a farmers market for produce. By the time I got to the Quinault Casino, the sun was out. Many casinos allow RV parking, some of them are absolutely free, others charge up to $30+ a night. This one was $5. It was actually a decent spot up against the woods, with a nice hiking trail about 10 minutes to the beach, which is really next door to Ocean City State Park. I can hear the wild ocean from my overnight spot.
After a relaxing time on the beach, soaking up the sun, I headed into town and found a marketplace of wooden carved items. Someone here is quite handy with the chainsaw, as I saw the typical wooden carved bear, but several other things including Sasquatch, or "Bigfoot" I got a kick out of their facial expressions. They are happy.
I headed further south and came across several galleries, stopping in one called Fusion Gallery, which had a carpet filled with drawings of children that come in with their parents to view the gallery. This was the owners way of freeing up time so parents could browse, while also giving the children an opportunity to be artistic. It must be fun for them knowing that in any other time and place drawing on a carpet would be a big big no-no. I also found an antique store. Of course there is at least one of these in every town. The other thing that's quite prevalent in these small towns are cannabis/marijuana dispensaries, and of course liquor stores, and vape/smoke shops. I have to wonder about the economy here and the oppressed environment of many of these small towns, and have always wondered how anyone makes a living!?
