Near the Kern River
Other than some light traffic across the river, it was a very quiet and very dark night with the brightest stars.
I didn't get too far today but wound up at a museum and antique location called Silver City Ghost Town, in Bodfish, CA.
I toured the museum which is actually a collection of homes and small buildings that were collected and moved from within a 7 mile radius of this area. The actual jail house is here along with a post office, Wells Fargo, doctor's office, church, and more.
The buildings are all from the mid-to-late 1800's and unfortunately look like they have been in complete neglect ever since they were moved here from the 1970s through the 1990s. I don't think anyone does a bit of cleaning or pick up as there is dust and cobwebs everywhere. But you certainly get a taste of the life that the pioneers lead along with rusted artifacts of items that make you wonder what they may have been used for.
There were small rooms with antiques for sale, and I was in the mood to find something to remind me of this area, but I didn't. The shop was also in need of a good clean up job and I swear it didn't look like things were getting turned over too quickly with the amount of dust layered on top. But it was definitely worth a stop, and a nice way to explore this area.
I looked ahead towards boondocking options near Lake Isabella. I drove through the region and sought out where I might stay. I hung out at one spot while having lunch, but decided to move on and I'm now located on the north portion of the Kern River on BLM lands. It is a paved road with many pull out sections, and I'm overlooking mountains along with some pine trees in a very serene shady spot. The only thing I can hear is the wind whipping through the trees. That is music to my ears, versus the campers that I came across earlier today who were blasting their radios at inhumane decibel levels. Why?
I am still hanging low keeping ice on my bruises, and I know the ice is helping. However the entire leg is bruised from knee to ankle. It's definitely painful, but I hope in another day or two for some improvement.
In the meantime I'm going to enjoy the warm weather, and peace with Jo Jo.
