Freezout Lake, Montana
I feel like I am in the heartland of America. Central Montana. In a place called Freezout Lake Wildlife Management Refuge. There are literally hundreds of bird species in the area including swans, blue heron, white pelicans, geese, cormorants, and so many more. I even enjoyed seeing a fat orange bellied Robin. I was enamored with the absolute peace and joy and the feeling of safety in this very remote space. And the weather was fantastic. I was the only one in this campsite and really can't believe that I was. I decided to take a drive into another part of the refuge and for miles and miles down a dirt road I was literally the only one, except for one older woman that did pass me. Either I am off season, or this is just not a destination, I'm just not sure which. I'm surrounded by wheat fields and watched the farmers harvesting their wheat. As I walked along the grasses, there are dozens, if not hundreds of grasshoppers jumping around. Could it be that these grasshoppers are easily harvested alongside the wheat, making it a less than vegetarian option? Ha! Yes, there were that many. Either way, it is certainly a slice of peace here that I so value. Listening to the chirping and singing birds was wonderful. And not only that, but my internet and cell phone reception was absolutely perfect. For the first time, in a long time, it allowed me to do so much catch up work. I look forward to a restful evening.
