Pismo Beach, CA

I was lucky enough to secure two nights at Pismo Beach, Oceano State Beach.

Check in wasn't until 2 p.m., so I parked on the street and found my spot on the beach. I tried going into the water and could only make it up to mid-calf, as I thought it was incredibly cold. Jo Jo hates the water and was a bit nervous thinking that I would dip him in, but in this case there was no way that I could do that to him.

There was a beach trail close to my campsite even though it took 15 minutes  going straight up and down the sand dunes to reach the beach. I have to say it was quite a work out quite and a view, and I did this at least twice a day over the next couple of days. The park is also wedged in between a lagoon like area and full of fog in the morning while it was cool.

I thought I was being smart, the next morning, by getting up at dawn to drive to the parking lot right next to the beach. But little did I know it that surfers are that dedicated, and the parking lot was completely filled. So I merely made my way back to camp, about a half a mile away, where I settled back in, had my breakfast, and coffee, and just told myself I was going to do the dune trail again, yet again. Honestly, it was a pretty hike through these dunes, and a good workout too.

I made my way to Carpinteria State Beach, a couple of hours further south, and actually it was noticeably warmer. I finally got back into the ocean this time all the way in, dodging the waves as I also tried to dodge surfers. One of them came unbelievably close to me and I seriously thought I would get run over. Fortunately, he was able to steer clear of my really close encounter.

I love going to sleep in the RV, and in this case listening to the sounds of the ocean.

The RV is parked right along the beach on pavement, less than a hundred feet from the ocean. I really love this spot, and wish I could stay longer, but I'm only here for one night.  The only drawback to this area is the tar you try to avoid stepping in. There are 6 oil platforms on the horizon. So next time I will have to bring clean up solution for my feet!
