Polebridge and Bowman Lake, Montana
What an absolute cool and peaceful night at the river. Magical.
I headed out to Polebridge, Montana which was about a 10 mile further north drive. At this point I'm very close to the Canadian border, and about as far north as I will get, within 10 miles. Polebridge Mercantile is an old-fashioned type of shop, but also a bakery where I certainly had to indulge in a huckleberry bear claw, as well as a cheddar biscuit turkey sandwich for lunch. I was told that they have incredible pizza, but I have to wait until after 3 p.m. if I decide to get that for dinner. I've had cravings for pizza. In the meantime I was warned about the 7 mile drive to Bowman Lake, by Lynn and Ted, as well as by a park ranger. This is the northern entry into Glacier National Park. I've been on some crazy roads so I thought I would give it a try. And honestly for a one lane road it was plenty wide and the climbs were relatively simple for the Sylver Gypsy. No cell service at all in this whole area. What a beautiful view on a bright sunny day. Its cool and comfortable. And I had a treat of 2 loons calling as well. Flashback to the Adirondacks, in New York! The water was crystal clear, pristine, and I should have taken a swim. Tempting, in glacial runoff waters.
I did pick up that pizza at 3:00 pm, and headed back to last night's campsite. It's a Sunday night, and for the time being, I'm the only one here on this river. It's been the most peaceful quiet spot of the day.
