On the Way to Hannigan Meadows.

I tore myself away from the edge of Paddy Creek, and found my way to the town of Alpine. Along with a few hotel and cabin rentals, there's virtually nothing here except the beloved gas station. I had a half tank, but I knew that I wanted to fill up and get rid of my trash. Well unfortunately, the gas station pumps were shut down, due to a technological issue. So, I decided to catch up on some emails with the first cell service that I've had in days. I took the chance, and I'm taking the drive to Morenci, which is 90 miles, down the road. My half tank should more than make up for it, but I never like to enter the unknown wilds without a good tank full. I found a turnout just before Hannigan Meadows, and am at a camp about two and a half miles in from route 191. I am surrounded by pine trees, up a really easy driveway, high and dry, as it's been thundering and sprinkling for hours. I took a drive further along, hoping to get cell service, but there is no connection. Much of that drive was burned out old forest, with undergrowth fields of wildflowers, including black-eyed susan's.

For more personal entertainment, I also found, and managed to roll over two large pine tree trunk slices that were perfectly sized to the proportions of stools. What a perfect addition to my backyard fire pit this will make! I strapped them behind my chairs and we'll hope for the best during the drive home.
