Well, here I go again. I'm off on a road trip, to Zion National Park, Utah. I was supposed to go to Zion this spring, however health issues prevented me from going, so now I am making up for lost time. I debated whether or not to stay in the Flagstaff area, However passing through there midday today, it was 58 degrees, windy, and a low of 25 degrees expected overnight, with forecasted flurries! I don't think so. Not in October. I will avoid the cold if I can. It was only a 4 1/2 hour drive to get to the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. A beautiful area, just outside of the Navajo reservation, and the nearby Colorado River. This is the way you would go around the Grand Canyon from the south rim towards the north rim, although it's several hours of driving between the two. With the help of apps, I was directed to a spot right at the base of the these cliffs in the Bureau of Land Management. It is a free dispersed camping spot.
It's in the 70's, so very comfortable as I entered this road off of Highway 89A. I only traveled about a half-mile. The road is rather silty and sandy. I still have PTSD, and perhaps I always will when it comes to sandy roads from my incident on North Padre Island, Texas in 2018. Anyway, I stopped just shy of the ultimate destination, where I wanted to camp along the Colorado River, on a cliff. It's probably only a mile or two from here, but rather than play with fire, I'm going to settle into this off road spot. It's quite a stunning view towards the cliffs, so no complaints here. I am just amazed with the colors, and textures, along with these beautiful clouds, dark stormy clouds, that are rolling in. It's a feast for the eyes! I also found some rather cool rocks which I think are agates, looking like fossilized coral with a very shiny quartz look. Thats the dumbed down version. I'm a complete idiot, or a partial idiot, when it comes to my rockhounding, but I like pretty things so this fits the bill. I am still learning to identify rocks. Its a work in progress.
It's rather windy in this flat open area, and I feel the Sylver Gypsy rocking and rolling. It's incredibly peaceful. Very quiet, with only a few RV travelers that have slipped by. With any luck I'll feel like a baby in a cradle being lulled to sleep!
