Playa Del Carman, Mexico 2021

Hola!!

Carol and I planned a trip to Playa del Carmen, the Riviera Maya, to spend two weeks at the Mayan Palace Resort. This resort is part of the time share that my parents owned. We vowed to keep it going for as long as the lease is in effect. We are making good use of the opportunity.

This resort reminded me of several other resorts that encompassed buildings with a massive series of wooden boardwalks. There is a lot of walking, which is a good thing, except when you're in a hurry to get someplace. We had a routine most days of getting up and going to breakfast, and heading down to the beach. We would bypass the beautiful swimming pools, which were really filled up, with people, but Carol and I both agree we didn't travel for hours and hours to wind up at a swimming pool. Actually, I only swam in this pool once, in the evening. Which doesn't seem right, since these massive pools were clean, and stunning. We wanted to spend time at the ocean with sand between our toes and to snorkel in between the reef, and the peers. It is winter, so the surf was quite rough, and windy at times, and they actually closed off part of this area from time to time. I enjoyed walking out on one of the piers looking in towards the shore, but on other days, it was closed down. While walking to the ocean, we came upon several coatimundi: "coati" right next to the pool. They were not shy getting near people, and it was fun seeing them climb around and about. We brought along light snacks for lunch, and then planned our dinner, and happy hour (of course), at one of the many restaurants in the resort. There would be more choices than we could possibly take advantage of, even in the two week time we spent here. This resort is so large!
