Hecla at Brown’s Canyon National Monument/ Arkansas River

I spent way too much time on Internet stuff this morning including trying to get reservations in Rocky Mountain National Park. I knew I’d have to plan a little bit in advance to get a campsite.

From “Dan’s,” I decided to go downhill towards the Arkansas River. It was a pretty area and I have to pay a day pass, but I was also intrigued by the campground. I made the spontaneous decision to see if there were any openings, and there were, so I’ve decided to spend a night down here, a mere 2 miles from where I spent last night. This might’ve been the closest back to back camp spots, in different locations, that I’ve ever spent. My intention was to move up the road to the next town, but I hope to do that tomorrow. I just love the sound of water, and after parking, I took my chair down overlooking the river where I could wave to the rafters who waved back. I remembered that I had a nice quart size bag of fresh peas that needed to be opened. So I spent an hour or so opening up these peas and deciding how I would cook them up for dinner. A bit later I went back up to Dan’s campsite since my Internet was so much better, and spent about an hour up there doing some more “homework.” When I returned I took a little walking trail along the river with Jo Jo, and met up with a couple from Wisconsin who were enamored with the Sylver Gypsy. I gave them all the details. So here I am tonight after making dinner with those delicious peas, where I added some carrots and long grain rice. I am slowly watching the sunset come over the cliffs, while I sit in the shade enjoying the pleasant weather. I hear some campers sort of close by, but far enough away having a good time. I feel like it was a completely lazy and unproductive day, but so enjoyable, and very relaxing. How could I complain? I hope for a quiet night with no 10:30 PM interruptions, at least for tonight.
