Hooper, Sand Dunes Recreation, CO

It was a beautiful view looking at Blanca Mountain from the BLM spot where I spent the night. I spent some time laying out a map for my Colorado travels and found a very handy app on my iPhone to measure temperature in the entire United States at any moment in time, during the day. So definitely the central part of Colorado is going to be the cool zone. I was going to avoid eastern Colorado as I know it’s the flatland plains and will get incredibly hot. So after a leisurely morning I didn’t get too far, perhaps an hour before I decided to check out Sand Dunes Recreation. It’s a commercial operation, but also another mineral springs with an adult only area. I was able to get the last electric hook up site in the RV park, so Jo Jo could stay cool and comfortable.

I enjoyed the Hot Springs and spend the longest time talking to a couple Sue, and Myrna. Originally from Harrisburg Pennsylvania. They have been to the Mount Gretna art show and also the Greater Harrisburg Pennsylvania art show, where Sue was often a police officer on duty there. For all I know we would’ve run into each other back in the day. It was enjoyable speaking with them as they just sold their house and now are living in their RV. They are also campsite hosts in a KOA in the town of Alamosa. They were there on their day off enjoying the springs. After a light dinner,  I went back and stayed until about 8:30 pm, speaking to a young man, Eric.  Who also just bought land and is building a home. He was a rock hounder, so we had common discussions over rocks and he gave me a few tips on where to find some in this area. It was a relaxing and enjoyable day and I slept like the dead, which just means that I probably should find myself a spa or mineral springs everyday!
