Ojo Caliente, NM
June 9, 2022:
The black Mesa winery was A-OK and thankfully my neighbors and their generators shut down by the time it got to be bedtime. There was quite a bit of vehicle street noise.
I headed back towards Espinola to return those J brackets that I did not use, along with some grocery store shopping, and I picked up a bag of peas from a tailgate farmer. In the meanwhile I called the Ojo Caliente Spa and Resort to see about an RV reservation at the Mineral Springs. This is where I wanted to wind up yesterday before my project at Lowe’s. Yes, they had a reservation available and I made it up there, and checked in at noon. From about 12:30, all the way through 8 PM I sifted through many springs, at least 10, such as the iron springs, arsenic, and Lithia.
The springs were not sulfur, but the healing powers would help to aid in everything from digestive, to skin ailments. I really appreciated the environment that was whisper silent. As a matter of fact attendees would float through the area with signs saying “whisper please.” No children were allowed in the springs, and silence is encouraged to help in the experience. The mud pool was exceptionally unusual, and enjoyable. You could go to the mud station/sink, and drip slurry mud all over your body and sit and let it bake in by the sun. Once your skin is completely crusted up, you enter the mud pool where you can slowly let it come off then rinsing under the showers. I managed to do this experience twice today. I absolutely enjoyed it. Loved it!
I have felt a bit of a twinge in my back, so I made a point of alowing the faucets to land on that part of my back. They weren’t jets, like you would think of in a spa, but natural flowing water is coming out of a 2 inch pipe into these pools which are recirculated. I watched the cliffs nearby, and the crows landing on the top, the clouds rolling in, even stormy clouds. It was incredibly relaxing.
