I got lucky yet again with a beautiful quiet night. I got ready to depart at 8:30 when I noticed a BMW sedan bombing up this rough dirt road as they passed me, and then immediately turned around and pulled up right across from my space. I wondered what the heck, there’s so many options why park right there? They rolled down their window, and asked if I was the Sylver Gypsy, which made me laugh. Apparently they drove by earlier in the morning and on the way back they had to come in and just ask me about her. They were from the Denver area and have been thinking about a class B van like mine, so they needed to know my thoughts. I went into the sales pitch mode, and told them everything I know. They seem delighted with my responses. I was pleased that perhaps I influenced and steered them in the same direction. It was actually pretty funny that somebody would find me out here, literally in the middle of nowhere to pick my brain over the RV.
I got to the town of Crested Butte and was able to visit the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. This building was not here 10 years ago and I was excited to visit the local art scene. They only had one exhibit of unique jewelry pieces as well as some oil painting on wood panel. Either way I was inspired by what I saw. The sun was out today though it was cool where I could leave JoJo in the RV until I headed towards Curacanti National Recreation Area, and turned at the first sign of a campsite. Stevens Camp is right on the edge of the water and it’s only eight dollars a night. It’s part of the national park system and I was able to get drinking water, which I started to run low on. The best part of all is that I met Betsy. She’s 71 years old and driving a ram pro master, though a 1500 short bed. So I had another opportunity to hype up the Sylver Gypsy, but the conversation lead towards her bicycle. It was an electric bike, a Lectric, which is designed in Phoenix. Betsy was so nice and offered me to test ride it. I took her up on the offer and after a brief lesson on how to shift and maneuver the gears, I started in first gear and then kicked it into second and it was like I was flying. She really loves the bike. It is a fold up bike so she folded it up for me and the test was to see if I could lift it up into the RV. It’s 65 pounds. Fortunately I could do it, and I was able to fit it behind the captains chair. With a few padded protections, and straps I know that I would be able to get this bike securely inside without impeding the flow of inside traffic. So, now it’s going from my wish list to my “I want to have this” list, and it would be a perfect birthday gift to myself. What a serendipitous series of events!
