Maroon Bells to Glenwood Springs, CO
July, 22,2022
As soon as I got up, I headed down to Maroon Lake. I know the buses will start to shuttle people here shortly and I wanted to get a parking spot. I took a lovely walk this morning and probably walked a quarter of a mile intending to do the lake trail, when I saw the sign saying “no dogs” beyond this point. My heart sank and I don’t like breaking the rules, but I just decided to walk a little further up to two different bridges and then I turned around. I probably only did a mile total, but it was enough to take in this beautiful morning. Eventually a young forest ranger did stop and said… no dogs allowed here, and I told him I would go back. He was quite nice about it and mentioned that there is a bull moose in the area and that the dog and the moose won’t get along. I met a couple from the Denver area that also walked her Pomeranian inside a stroller. Their dog “Joey,” was 17 1/2 years old, and blind, with back issues, but he was still hobbling along. I tore myself away from the area and headed towards Snowmass Village. But I decided to keep moving until I got to Glenwood Springs where I made a reservation at Iron Mountain Hot Springs at 4 PM. I also scoped out and reviewed places to stay nearby and spent a little time in the city public parking lot determining whether or not I would come back here this evening. Should I? We’ll see. I kept Jo Jo in the RV with the generator and air conditioning running as it was already up to 90° and I had second guesses about what to do. I had faith that the Sylver Gypsy would run properly, but I always fear, in the back of my mind, that there may be a failure. At about 5 o’clock, I decided to leave and check on the RV. Everything was fine and it was 78° inside, and Jo Jo was extremely happy to see me. I decided to drive closer to the main parking area, as I was parked way too far away. I resumed my spa session. You purchase a three hour block of time and are requested to leave when your session is over. It’s a little bit different than the other spa experiences that I have had. I made sure to get out before 7pm, as there’s a lineup for the showers. I took advantage of that fabulous shower before getting back to the RV where Jo Jo, again, eagerly awaited my return. I was thankful that the generator and the air conditioning were working in tip top shape. I returned to the city parking lot and was able to squeeze in between the construction equipment next to a steam rolling machine. And also within a few feet of the railroad track. Yes, I heard the train go by four different times and fortunately they did not blow the horn. But I could still feel and hear the rumble. Other than that I didn’t hear much noise. it’s probably been one of the more unusual overnight stays I’ve experienced here, as the Sylver Gypsy, pretty thing, is parked next to these big bad boys, and the contrast was amusing. Yes it was still hot. I had to leave most of my windows open overnight, to keep cool. I need to make the effort now to head back into the mountains, at a higher elevation. I wish I had more time to explore the town but keeping me and JoJo comfortable is equally as important.
