My surrounding camper neighbors were quiet overnight, however two of them let their dogs run loose. It’s times like this I really do want to confront people, but I pick my battles. There is no camp host, and there is no ranger to be found. This is a rather isolated place so others feel like they can bend the rules. I decided first thing to jump in the front seat and drive just a quarter-mile up the road to a parking area, where I could walk Jo Jo and have my breakfast. It still annoys me that people have loose dogs without a second thought that perhaps my little guy could become a victim.
I took the massive climb out of the canyon this morning and the Sylver Gypsy did great. I headed towards the town of Montrose, for a morning of chores, groceries, and gas and some Internet catch up. I researched a dispersed campsite not far, about 10 miles east using Miss Google. But here she was again misdirecting me and messing things up. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. So, I got the scenic tour which was pretty nice, and I also did more research, recalibrated, and it was only a 20 minute drive out of my way. Arrgh! There were one or two other campers on this directed site, however I traveled another mile up the road and found my own space. The challenge was the mud, because it was raining pretty steadily. I got out to walk around and made the choice in one area that had a bit of a rock face exposed. So here I stay and it was a blissful night. It is certainly not one of the more beautiful locations. It’s high desert, on a Mesa with huge power lines, but you could observe the twinkling lights of Montrose down below. It could certainly be worse!
