Durango, CO

August 12, 2022

I left Haviland Lake this morning and enjoyed last night’s rain which I think between that and the spa session, really made me sleep well. I headed towards the town of Durango and found street parking with a three hour meter. I didn’t think I would take the entire three hours, but I wound up racing back, just in time. I did see the meter maid actively recording license plates and I certainly don’t want to add a ticket to my to my adventures. I enjoyed urban hiking including an antique store where I found a set of glasses that reminded me of my father‘s mom, my grandmother. I did not purchase them, but I do enjoy treasure hunting or junking, because you never know what you will find! I was pleased to find several galleries with some nice work including local ceramics. And what a thrill to find my friend Jan‘s pieces, as suddenly I felt like I had a friend with me. The gallery owner actually lived in the town of Ithaca and knew about upstate New York winters. She was a very pleasant woman, and I enjoyed our visit. I stopped at the Durango Coffee Company, for delicious coffee along with a blueberry muffin. Many of the restaurants have a curbside outdoor seating. I am assuming it’s a temporary platform fencing and covering that they place in the street for many of the restaurants here. I’ve seen this elsewhere as well, and I think it’s a great idea, but I’m sure they will have to take down before winter. This particular coffe shop had upholstered chairs and oriental carpets which made for a lovely living room setting. It was fun watching the people pass by and of course JoJo received a lot of attention. I am at 6500 foot elevation and they have reported the high temperature at 96°. I certainly should be used to warm weather, and I better become acclimated, as I am entering my final week of travel.
